IELTS Academic or General Training: which do you need?
The two tests share the same Listening and Speaking sections. Reading and Writing are different.
IELTS Academic
IELTS describes Academic as the test for study at undergraduate or postgraduate level, and for professional registration, such as for doctors and nurses.
IELTS General Training
IELTS describes General Training as the test for migrating to an English-speaking country, such as Australia, Canada, New Zealand or the UK, and for training or study below degree level.

IELTS test format at a glance
The total test time is 2 hours and 45 minutes. IELTS is available in different formats and versions, including IELTS for UKVI for certain UK visa applications. Check the official IELTS website for the version and format that suit you.

What our IELTS coaching covers
Listening
You prepare for the recordings and question types in the Listening section, and for answering accurately within the time.
Reading
Academic and General Training use different texts, so your Reading preparation follows the test you are taking.
Writing
The Writing tasks differ between the two tests. Academic Task 1 asks you to describe visual information, while General Training Task 1 is a letter. Both tests end with an essay in Task 2.
Speaking
The Speaking test is a conversation with an examiner. You prepare to answer clearly and develop your responses in English.
How the coaching works
- Assessed writing: Task 1 and Task 2 responses are marked and returned with feedback.
- Speaking practice: You practise speaking and receive feedback on your responses.
- Mock tests: Timed mock tests show how you perform under test conditions.
- Homework review: Set work is reviewed so errors are corrected before the next class.
- Progress tracking: Your progress is tracked across sections as the course runs.

IELTS and your visa
IELTS for your visa
Many skilled visa pathways use English test results. In Australia, higher English results can add points to your score. In Canada, results are converted to Canadian Language Benchmark levels for Express Entry.

Which IELTS test do I need for Canada or Australia PR?
For Canada Express Entry, IELTS General Training is required. IELTS One Skill Retake is not accepted for Express Entry. Australia accepts IELTS Academic or General Training for relevant skilled visa English requirements. Confirm the accepted test and component scores for your specific pathway.
What are the IELTS coaching fees?
Our team shares course details and fees when you connect with us. The IELTS test fee is separate and is paid to the official test provider.
